Crowns & Bridges
Crowns and bridges are the cornerstones of restorative dentistry as they can restore singular damaged teeth as well as multiple damaged teeth and missing teeth.
Here at MyDental Care we use porcelain for our restorations and veneers as they provide the best protection and the most realistic colour for a seamless transition from real to prosthetic teeth in your mouth.
Dental Crowns
Dental crowns are generally used when a tooth has become damaged or compromised due to decay, injury or a root canal procedure. The purpose of a crown is to restore strength to the enamel and structure of your natural tooth without sacrificing the tooth entirely. A crown is also constructed with the appearance of your smile in mind, meaning that the crown will be shaped and coloured so that it blends in with your natural teeth. The process of receiving a dental crown will involve preparing, creating and fitting the crown.
In order to prepare your natural tooth for the covering crown we must take a mould of your smile. We will then use a cast of your smile to create your crown while we prepare your natural tooth for your crown. In order to do this some of the tooth structure must be lost and shaped so that there is room for your crown to be fitted. Once the tooth is prepared your permanent crown will be bonded to your natural tooth in the comfort of our dental practice.
Dental Bridges
Dental bridges are generally made out of two crowns with a solid fake tooth in between them. The three teeth are joined together forming a bridge, which can then be secured to existing natural teeth next to a gap left by a missing tooth. The creation of a dental bridge is similar to a crown, as a mould of your mouth will have to be taken so that we can create a bridge that is suitable to your smile. Once this is created we will prepare your existing teeth for your crowns surrounding the gap in your smile. If you have a missing tooth at the back of your mouth then a dental implant can be used to support one side of the bridge.
Acknowledging pain is the key to avoiding restorative dentistry
If you have been experiencing pain then we recommend making an appointment with us as soon as possible. This will ensure that we have the best chance to retain your natural tooth by treating the source of the problem. At MyDental Care we always prefer to maintain your natural tooth structure although we can create realistic and durable restorations if necessary.
