As a general rule we recommend that patients visit our practice every six months for a general oral health check-up and professional clean.

That said there are certain times in life where extra care of your oral health must be taken and these include:

During childhood

Ensuring your child cares for their teeth will set them up for a healthier smile when their adult teeth come through. Early orthodontics can also save you time and money in the future as your child can achieve a straighter smile from a young age. At MyDental Care we teach your children how to care for their teeth as well as providing a fun and exciting play area so that your child can play while you get your teeth checked too.

During pregnancy

It is common for pregnant women to develop some form of gingivitis, which if untreated can develop into periodontitis which can be harmful to your body. It is important to remember while pregnant that your mouth and the rest of your body is intrinsically linked which means you must take good care of your teeth and mouth. It is also important to ensure that you are eating the right foods and not smoking as this can not only harm your teeth but also your baby.

During the later stages in life

As you get older your teeth will begin to show signs of wear and tear which include enamel erosion, gum recession, cosmetic issues (chips and discolouration) and even dental disease. Once you are over 50 the risk of gum disease (periodontitis) increases significantly which means that you will have to be more attentive when it comes to the health of your teeth. We recommend visiting us so that you can benefit from regular oral evaluations to maintain the health of your teeth. If you do not care for your teeth as you age, you may lose teeth and require dental implants.
