Veneers and Bonding

Could your smile be improved in more ways than one? Porcelain veneers are the best way to amend numerous problems with your smile simultaneously.

They are thin porcelain covers for your teeth which are custom-made to suit your smile. At MyDental Care we will create a custom mould of your mouth so that we can construct porcelain veneers to improve your smile.

Veneers have the ability to fully transform and remodel the appearance of your smile by changing the shape of your teeth. They are the perfect solution for a number of problems including:

  • small gaps between the teeth
  • discolouration
  • small chips
  • a gummy smile
  • short stubby teeth (that have been ground down by bruxism)

Porcelain veneers are your best option for a new smile

Porcelain is now the preferred material in dentistry as it is resistant to staining, has the same sheen as your natural teeth and is the most realistic option. It is also strong and durable and can last a long time if cared for correctly. Most veneers last at least up to ten years and when the utmost care is taken, could possibly last even longer. In order to maximise the life of your veneers we recommend staying away from biting hard lollies and chewing on very chewy lollies. This will ensure that your veneers stay properly bonded for as long as possible.

The porcelain veneer process

To begin, a mould will be taken of your smile which will give us the impression you need to create custom-made porcelain veneers that will fit snugly over your natural teeth. Your teeth will also be prepared for the veneers, which involves removing .3mm of tooth surface to allow for the veneers. You will then need to return for a second appointment so that we can adhere the porcelain veneers to your teeth.  Porcelain veneers will be fitted to your teeth using a special bonding agent which will be activated by an LED light. This will secure the veneers to your teeth and ensure that they last for as long as possible.

Bonding is the more affordable alternative to veneers

Dental bonding is a versatile dental treatment which has a wide variety of uses. It can be used to conceal:

  • small chips or cracks
  • discolouration
  • small gaps
  • misshapen teeth
  • atubby teeth
  • gum recession

Dental bonding can also be used as a material for fillings, inlays and onlays as it provides a tooth-coloured solution to decay as well as a tooth-coloured alternative to amalgam and metal alloy. Dental bonding or resin material is now the most trusted material as there is no risk of mercury getting released into the body. Although this hasn’t been proven with amalgam fillings, it is always better to be safe than sorry in terms of your overall health. This is the same when it comes to preventive dentistry as it is always better to prevent problems rather than treat them after they occur.

Veneers and bonding can both give you the smile you have always wanted.
